About the Film
In the vast, silent landscape of the Lofoten Islands, two voices reflect on different ways of loving. One is drawn towards movement, distance and the horizon; the other towards presence, care and the decision to remain. As their perspectives gradually converge, the landscape becomes a space where intimacy, uncertainty and silence take shape.
Where Silence Moves is a poetic reflection on love not as a destination, but as a way of walking together.

Director’s Statement
Where Silence Moves was born from a desire to think of love not as a destination or a story, but as a way of moving through the world: a continuous negotiation between going forward and choosing to remain.
The landscape of the Lofoten Islands is not a backdrop, but an active presence. Its vastness, isolation, cold and suspended sense of time make visible what often remains unspoken within a relationship: the tension between movement and stillness, risk and care, projection and listening.
The film unfolds through two distinct perspectives. One is drawn towards movement, decision and the horizon; the other towards attention, duration and the gesture of staying. These different ways of experiencing love are also expressed formally through contrasting aspect ratios and colour treatments. The wider, more contrasted images open the body to distance and landscape, while the more contained frame brings the gaze closer to gesture, intimacy and the present moment.
By withholding the characters’ faces, I wanted the film to move away from individual psychology and towards a more universal experience. The voices do not explain the images, and the images do not illustrate the words. They meet, separate and sometimes resist each other, leaving silence as an active part of the film.
The film does not seek resolution or arrival. It remains in the space where two ways of being can coexist. Love is not a destination. It is a way of walking.
Love is not a destination. It is a way of walking.

MIGUEL CARDOSO
Miguel Cardoso is a Portuguese filmmaker, photographer and visual artist, born in Setúbal in 1972. His filmmaking practice grew from an extensive background in photography, music videos, animation and visual communication, shaping a cinematic approach marked by carefully composed imagery and an interest in perception, time and emotional ambiguity.
His short film 6, a psychological thriller exploring the boundaries between dream and reality, was screened at 26 film festivals worldwide, receiving three awards and one nomination.
Working independently through Terra Films, Miguel develops projects in which narrative and visual form are closely connected. His films often explore interior states through landscape, rhythm and fragmented perspectives, inviting the audience to question what is real, remembered or imagined.
His latest short film, Where Silence Moves, continues this exploration through a poetic reflection on love, movement, permanence and the silent space between two people.
